Nausea

Common Complaint

Nausea is a common complaint and side-effect that usually rises in importance only during pregnancy, where the mother's inability to maintain adequate nutrition jeopardizes the health of the baby and is called hyperemesis gravidarum or abbreviated NVP (nausea and vomiting in pregnancy). IMG

Treatments

Treatments for NVP include pyridoxine/doxylamine and ondansetron. Ondansetron may function as a GMP-reductase inhibitor, decreasing inosine (Io) in exchange for increased guanine-derivatives. Pyridoxine is expected to compete with phosophoribose to secondarily inhibit HGPRT. IMG
